Laura West and her daughter Maleka were the guest speaker at our yearly ladies retreat. There were 34 ladies attending and our theme this year was “Joyous Living.” Laura did 4 sessions, beginning with her and Maleka’s testimony, another session was from the Mire to the Choir, Overcoming Stress and Anxiety, and the last one was Hope. She uses lots of scripture, is very knowledgeable of the Bible, super funny, and real. The laughter was what so many of us needed. Her daughter Maleka blessed our hearts with her songs. What do you do when someone impacts your life in a huge way? You write a review to tell the world how amazing this experience was! I came to the event, without even knowing what I was coming to. I just showed up, and had no expectations. I was told “a comedian” is coming, by a friend.After dinner ended, Laura West took the stage, and YES, she is FUNNY! I love to laugh, and actually remembered her jokes when I got home that evening! They were THAT funny! But, after that part of the event, things became more serious as Laura told the story of her ministry and adoption of Maleka. The story is one of God’s love, his purpose for our lives, and forgiveness. I came in the door a very angry and hurt Christ-loving woman, and left a changed wife. I went home and immediately told my husband what I had experienced and the miracle that had transformed my life through her story. Maleka took the stage and sang beautiful songs with her God given talent, that is off the chart! The combination of the comedy, testimony, and Maleka’s songs make for the most memorable evening that has impacted my life and others through her amazing story.
